The weather during the Easter weekend has been absolutely beautiful. Last year, the bank holiday was cold, wet and windy. But this year, our raincoats were swapped for ray-bans and we enjoyed ice-cold G&Ts in the Costa-Del-Garden – hurrah! Now, we don’t think twice about coating ourselves in sun cream to protect our skin when on holiday abroad, so why are we so blasé and careless in the sun at home? Hands up if you’ve sat in the garden, tucking in to a mega BBQ, without wearing sun cream…yeah, us too. But it’s really important to protect your skin from the sun and harmful UV rays throughout the entire year, not just when it’s warm and sunny. The two kinds of UV rays that cause skin damage are UVA and UVB. UVB causes painful sunburn and skin reddening, while UVA damages collagen, creates dark spots and causes premature signs of ageing and wrinkles. UVB rays can actually damage your skin all-year-round as the rays bounce off reflective surfaces, such as snow and ice, and can burn the skin – yikes! So, when choosing a moisturiser, it’s really important to invest in one with SPF in to protect your skin from sun damage all-year-round. And, it goes without saying, the higher the SPF, the greater the protection.
